Bedroom Closet Remodel

Jeff and I have recently given some thought to remodeling our master bedroom closet.  The closet is just too small for us to share.  I feel it would add value to our home to have a bigger, nicer master bedroom closet.  Here is a photo of it currently:

There are sliding doors, so Jeff and I can’t access the closet at the same time.  It can be a pain when we are putting laundry away!  I feel like the closet could definitely be expanded.  The master bedroom is a good size so if we take a little bit away from the size of the room, I don’t think it would be a big deal.  I think this home definitely needs more closet space.  Jeff started looking at a few websites last night like Easy Closets and California Closets to get some ideas.  The walk in closet on the California Closet site is so awesome!  We don’t have space for something quite that big, but it’s still cool to check out!

We are putting this on our bigger and more expensive home priority list, along with getting a new furnace!  The furnace is probably going to have to get put in first since that is a higher priority.  I am hoping the current one gets us through this winter and we can get a new high efficiency one put in around September or October.  The current furnace we have is really old, although our realtor told us it was very well made.  I think a newer furnace can also add value to a home.  I know when Jeff and I were looking for a home we loved seeing things like “new furnace”, “new roof”, and “newer windows” on the property listing!  Of course we aren’t planning on moving out of this home anytime soon, but I think it’s always important to keep the resale value of the home in mind when doing any type of home improvement!

That reach-in closet is way too small for two people so I would say you need to follow through with your idea of expansion either by traditional means or tear the whole closet out and do built-in cabinets that will provide you with an attractive and accessible closet solution. See my site for closet makeover ideas.

We just completd a master closet remodel. We have a full walk in closet and wanted ideas too. We visited 3 different companies and their show rooms. Many had examples of smaller closets like yours. You will be amazed on how they can get you organized and maximize your space. Stick with laminate componets VS true custom with stained wood, etc to save money.

Have you thought about putting in double pocket doors? This way, you would both be able to use the closet at the same time. This may not be an option depending on your walls.
