Our turquoise bathroom: before and after

January 22, 2010 at 12:18 am 4 comments

As I have mentioned in previous posts, our main bathroom is filled with turquoise tile.  At first I wasn’t so sure about it, but once I found a good color scheme in a magazine, I really like it!  The color scheme I went with uses turquoise, lime green and shades of blue.  It’s bright, fun, and reminds me of summer.  With the tile being this shade, we decided to keep the walls white.  White actually adds to the color scheme pretty easily, considering the walls, sink, toilet, and trash can are that color.  If you are going to use a bunch of bright and lively colors, you should have a neutral in there as well to balance it out.  You don’t want to go overboard!

Below is our before photo.  This photo shows how the previous owners had decorated the bathroom.  No wonder I didn’t like the tile color at first!  They used one shade of blue for everything in the bathroom and it didn’t look right.

Here is the after photo.  This is how the bathroom looks now with our things in it.

Honestly I think the shower curtain makes a big difference!  Make sure to really consider your shower curtain, because it is a main focus of the bathroom decor.  I spent a long time looking online to find the one I got!  If you are doing a similar color scheme, you can check out some of the other nice shower curtains I found on this list here for ideas.

As you can see from the photo, our bathroom is not completely done.  We plan to get a wall cabinet in there for some extra storage space, and put up a picture or two so the walls aren’t so bare!

If you have turquoise tile in your bathroom, consider using a color scheme with turquoise, lime, and shades of blue!  Buying a few accessories such as a shower curtain, rug and towels will give your bathroom a new look for a low cost.

Hey it looks really good! It does make a big difference and you have shown how to really change and improve the look of a room by adding a new color scheme and a few inexpensive items. Yes, the shower curtain does make a big difference!

Love the way you brought the tile from the 80’s into a contemporary and fresh look for 2010! Turquoise is actually becoming a popular decorating color and one of the 2010 color forecast as a top trend by color experts. Its a color that reminds me of the 1980;s so is a color I haven’t been really embracing, but lately I’ve seen some color combinations I like and so I’m thinking of adding it to our bedroom as an accent color. Your bathroom looks fantastic!
