New Toilet

Over the weekend, Jeff and I bought a new toilet from Lowe’s.  We decided we could spend $200 on one and went from there.  Before going out shopping we did some research online, looking at Consumer Reports and other sites for what the best toilets are as far as the brands and models.  From my research, the best brands seem to be Kohler and American Standard.  Our handyman also recommended those brands of toilets.

Jeff and I planned to pay additional money to get the toilet installed as well.  Neither of us know anything about installing one, and we’re not really interested to learn either!  So before going to Lowe’s, we called Home Depot to find out how much they charge to install a toilet.  They ended up being more expensive than Lowe’s so we decided to not even go to their store.  After looking around a little we decided to purchase the American Standard Cadet 3.  This one got very good ratings and is also a WaterSense model which only uses 1.28 gallons of water per flush!  I honestly don’t know how many gallons per flush our old toilet used but it was way more than that.  Hurray for saving water!

Today the toilet was put in.  The installer from Lowe’s had to run out and get a new flange and also a shut off valve because there was not one there currently.  He charged us more due to the extra parts and labor which I wasn’t too happy about, but oh well.  This new toilet is not as wide as our old one and the bathroom feels less cramped now.  This was one of the planned updates for our main bathroom.  In the future we’ll get a new lighting fixture and medicine cabinet, possibly a new faucet, sink, and vanity top as well to get a more modern look!  See below for a pic of our new toilet.

looks nice! Good to be informed about consumer reports and the best brands. I know we didn’t know anything about buying a toilet when we bought ours from Home Depot, but so far we’ve had no problems with our Pegasus Cottage. It’s an eco-saver toilet with a bucket in the tank. Yeah, we needed extra parts for our toilet too. The install was originally estimated at $70, but came out to be $100 with extra parts and labor. We had a handyman do it for us.
